The role

At Talpa eCommerce we're tackling the fast & exciting world of high-volume real-time auctions. We have ambitions to continue our international expansion and punch above our weight on the eCommerce scene. And for this we need a pragmatic & experienced Python engineer to join our Data-Driven Performance team and help us drive these plans. How to do this, you ask? The Data-Driven Performance team takes care of intelligence & machine learning in our stack. As you can imagine, on an auction site, the customer decides the price, and if people don't bid, we can actually sell products for as low as 1 euro. That's great for the customers, but giving away products for nearly free is not a long-term business model. This is where this team steps in to automate the auction planning, tweak auction duration, measure success and update our ML models.

What are you bringing?

• Deep experience of Python & building web applications.
• Belief in data-driven approach & curiosity/passion for Machine Learning or the dedication to learn fast.
• Strong desire to improve the status quo, to achieve results, and to make an impact for your customers as well as for your colleagues. You own the code and the technical solution, and this is normal for you.
• Familiarity with best practices & common design patterns (DDD, OOD, SOLID, YAGNI, KISS, DRY, etc).
• Solid understanding of RDBMs (PostgreSQL or MySQL/MariaDB) as well as NoSQL databases (eg Redis, DynamoDB).
• Experience or eagerness to learn and work with Kafka event bus as well as APIs (REST, RPC, GraphQL).
• The conviction that tested code is better code - and that tests are not just an afterthought or an impediment.
